Project Background
Invited by Apple, I partnered with engineer Jane Chao to design and facilitate a series of specialized workshops on Reality Composer Pro. Our goal was to empower developers to explore visionOS development through a hands-on, project-based curriculum.
My Role
Learning Experience Designer: I developed a Project-Based Learning (PBL) curriculum that allowed developers to ideate, build, and iterate XR content within a single session.
3D Asset Designer: To streamline the creative process, I developed 16 modular USDZ assets, allowing participants to remix parts and materials into entirely new spatial structures.

Target Audience & Needs
Developers with experience in iOS or other XR platforms, who are:
・Unfamiliar with Reality Composer Pro and its capabilities.
・ Some have prior experience with Unity or Unreal.
・ Primarily from an engineering background with limited exposure to design, 3D environments, or immersive scene creation.
・Need a practical, adaptable way to integrate Reality Composer Pro into future projects.
Design Highlights
The workshop was designed with three key strategies to ensure a rewarding learning experience:
Creative Autonomy via “Micro-Worlds"
Instead of following a rigid, step-by-step tutorial, participants built personalized “Micro-Worlds." By customizing the scale, materials, and textures of modular assets, they gained creative ownership, transforming a technical exercise into a personal project.
The Particle System Challenge
For the 6-hour sessions, I introduced a gamified challenge with helpful tips. This encouraged active problem-solving and let participants master the software’s Particle System through hands-on experimentation.
The “Vision Pro WOW" Moment
The highlight of each session was seeing their work come to life on Apple Vision Pro. Witnessing their creations as high-fidelity spatial miniatures provided immediate gratification, sparking a real interest in exploring advanced visionOS development.
Participant Feedback
“The curriculum was thoughtfully designed and truly engaging." — Anonymous, NTU Participant, Oct 03, 2025
“Thank you, Mia, for the well-prepared RCP assets! It was my first time successfully building a 3D scene from scratch." — Anonymous, NTU Participant, Oct 03, 2025
Afterword
The workshop participants never cease to amaze me. Despite being provided with the same modular assets, they consistently pushed the boundaries, transforming basic components into something truly wild.
For instance, one participant ingeniously repurposed tree trunks as antlers to create a Christmas-themed scene, while another layered tree models to simulate heavy snow accumulation.
Inspired by their boundless creativity, I developed the samples shown below. These demos were crafted entirely from the same 16 original assets, enhanced with Particle Systems and custom Shader Graph materials to showcase the full potential of Reality Composer Pro.
